Description (Service)

As head of council, it is the mayor's responsibility to:

  • act as the municipality's chief executive officer
  • preside over council meetings such that business is carried out both efficiently and effectively
  • provide leadership to council
  • provide information/recommendations to council on policies, practices, procedures, to ensure transparency and accountability
  • represent the municipality at official functions
  • participate as a member of council for the Region of Halton

The Mayor's Office handles the following types of special requests (see online request form):

  • Ask the Mayor about an issue or concern in Burlington
  • Invite the Mayor to attend a public meeting or event in Burlington 
  • Government Visit Intake 
  • Request a meeting with the Mayor 
  • Request a congratulatory letter or certificate 
  • Request a flag raising 
  • Request a proclamation 
  • Request a pier lighting
