Sexual Harassment Prevention

Programs that attempt to reduce the incidence of sexual harassment in the workplace, in educational institutions or other settings by helping employers understand the law and their responsibilities regarding the issue, developing sound sexual harassment policies, preparing and implementing awareness and prevention training for administrators and staff, providing confidential and secure reporting procedures for victims and witnesses, conducting appropriate investigations of reported incidents and offering crisis intervention services, when warranted. The program may also provide tips that employees can use to resolve harassment situations themselves and intervention suggestions for employers.

Employment Insurance Benefits Assistance

Programs that provide assistance for people who are having difficulty understanding and/or obtaining the full benefits to which they are entitled by law through the Employment Insurance system. The programs may help people understand the eligibility criteria for employment insurance benefits, the benefits provided by the program, and the rights of beneficiaries; provide consultation and advice; help complete application forms; negotiate on their behalf with employment insurance benefits staff; prepare written appeals; and/or represent them in administrative hearings or judicial litigation. Included are organizations that offer a range of advocacy services as well as legal aid programs which offer more formalized legal assistance.

Programs that provide information, education, advocacy and/or other forms or legal assistance for people who are experiencing difficulties understanding or collecting their retirement benefits or who have other complaints about the terms or administration of their public or private pension plan or fund.

Workers Compensation Benefits Assistance

Programs that provide assistance for people who are having difficulty understanding and/or obtaining the full benefits to which they are entitled by law under provincial Workers Compensation statutes. The programs may help people understand the eligibility criteria for Workers Compensation benefits, the benefits provided by the program, and the rights of beneficiaries; provide consultation and advice; help them complete Workers Compensation application forms; negotiate on their behalf with Workers Compensation benefits staff; and/or represent them in administrative hearings or judicial litigation. Included are organizations that offer a range of advocacy services as well as legal aid programs which offer more formalized legal assistance. Workers Compensation is a disability insurance program mandated by the province and funded by employer contributions which provides compensation to covered employees for loss of their earnings as a result of an accidental injury or occupational disease sustained during employment, or which compensates dependents in case of a work-related death.

Labour Relations

Programs that provide assistance for employer and employee groups who are in the process of negotiating, fixing, maintaining, changing or arranging the terms, tenure, hours, wages, fringe benefits or conditions of employment. Included are programs that protect the employee's right to organize, oversee the union election process, and settle disputes between labour and management groups as well as those that provide technical assistance for labour and management groups to help them develop and maintain effective working relationships and avoid controversies before they arise.
