Pre-Abortion Counselling
Programs that provide counselling for individuals who have made a decision to terminate their pregnancy. The counselling provides information about fetal development, pregnancy prevention, the abortion procedure the patient will undergo, the risks and alternatives to the procedure, the risks of continuing the pregnancy and, when medically accurate, possible complications and longer term health risks such as sterility or risks to subsequent pregnancies associated with the procedure. The program may provide written information to review and may request a signature on an informed consent form.
Pregnancy/Childbirth Support Groups
Mutual support groups whose members are pregnant individuals or individuals who have had difficulties in areas relating to family planning, pregnancy and childbirth. Included are groups for individuals who are pregnant for the first time, individuals who are contemplating a home birth, breastfeeding individuals, families making decisions relating to birth control, individuals who have had a cesarean birth, who are at high risk for a problem pregnancy and parents of premature or high-risk infants. The groups meet in-person, by telephone or via the Internet; and provide an opportunity for participants to share their experience, strengths and hopes, understand their relationships and work through related emotions.
Counselling Services
Programs that provide guidance and support in resolving personal, social or psychological problems through an interactive process that encourages patients to make maximum use of their assets, strengthen effective existing defenses while eliminating those that are maladaptive, gain insight into conscious or unconscious conflicts, modify their goals and make other decisions that will help them improve their personal and interpersonal functioning and deal effectively with troubling situations in their lives.

Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders Treatment
Programs that provide emotional support, information and guidance in a variety of settings for individuals who have symptoms of depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder or postpartum psychosis, mental disorders that are associated with PMADs and affect an estimated 15% to 21% of pregnant and postpartum individuals in the weeks before and/or after their baby's birth. Therapists providing counselling and other services tailor therapeutic interventions to each person's PMADs diagnosis. But there are general recommendations that can be incorporated to support each client's ability to benefit from the interventions specific to their individual PMADs diagnosis which may include normalizing and destigmatizing the situation (reassuring them that it is normal to feel ambivalent during pregnancy and motherhood), prioritizing sleep, encouraging exercise and finally, developing a strong social network which may involve other individuals experiencing PMADs, a general "new moms group", or activities that focus on interests other than motherhood.
Postabortion Counselling
Programs that provide individual, conjoint or group counselling for individuals who have terminated their pregnancies and, if appropriate, for their significant others, which focuses on their feelings about the abortion and its effect on their lives.
Reproductive Rights Groups
Organizations that support the passage and enforcement of laws and other social measures which preserve an individual's right to reproductive health care including contraception, sterilization and the choice to terminate their pregnancy. Reproductive rights groups may also urge action on other issues such as assuring the availability of sex education to young people, preventing violence at abortion clinics and protecting people seeking an abortion from harassment.
