Electric Service Providers
Public or private entities that are responsible for the generation, transmission, sale and/or distribution of electricity to retail or end-use customers. In areas where power deregulation has occurred and unbundled electric service is available, customers can choose to purchase electricity from a variety of alternative sources at rates determined by market forces (while maintaining their current delivery arrangements), or may elect to stay with their current electric company under, in most cases, regulated rates.
Natural Gas Service Providers
Public or private entities that are responsible for the generation, transmission, sale and/or distribution of natural gas to retail or end-use customers. In areas where power deregulation has occurred and unbundled natural gas service is available, customers can choose to purchase natural gas from a variety of alternative sources at rates determined by market forces (while maintaining their current delivery arrangements), or may elect to stay with their current gas company under, in most cases, regulated rates.
Water Service Providers
Municipal and privately operated water companies that provide drinking water for homes and businesses. Also included are organizations that deliver bulk water to customers in rural areas beyond the reach of existing water lines or to those that prefer to drink bottled water; bulk water stations that serve as a source of drinking water for water haulers; and water vending services which allow consumers to purchase unit servings of water.
Wireless Service Providers
Companies that offer transmission services to users of wireless devices (handheld computers and telephones) through radio frequency (spectrum) signals rather than through end-to-end wire communication.
