Duties

Enrolling volunteers for the 2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR in Oakville and Milton. At this time we are not offering a Burlington location for the 2024-25 school year, please check back closer to Fall 2024.

Enrollment for the 2024-25 school year ramps up in April/May 2024 and continues all through the end of the school year and into the summer months. Spots are usually (almost) full by the time school starts up in September.

High school students will mentor a child once a week after school in a one-to-one relationship, with an elementary school student. Involves assisting a child in grades 3-8 with their homework, playing educational games, and developing organizational skills. Homework Club takes place at a number of elementary schools across the Halton region. For the 2024-25 school year, Homework Club will only run in-person (we will no longer offer virtual spots).

Please only apply if you are interested in mentoring IN PERSON at a specific school (in Oakville or Milton).

*Interviews and training are all done on Zoom*

Clients Students in grades 3 to 8 in need of assistance with some aspect of their school work, social interaction, or a positive role model as recommended by teachers and principals.

Accessibility The locations are in different elementary schools, sometimes the program is on the second floor with only stairs to access the room.

Training Orientation ; Training is provided ; Information re: student's needs and criteria for mentoring
Transportation Volunteers provide their own transportation to designated elementary schools in Oakville and Milton.  
Volunteers choose the locations (from a list provided by BBBS) that are closest to their high school and/or home.
Police Check Required
Additional Requirements Application package, references, interview, and attendance at mandatory training. 
*application package will be emailed to applicant after inquiring (Volunteer Halton submission is NOT the application) 
*police check not required for youth applicants (under 18yrs)
