Volunteer Driver (Recycling Revisited)
(Community Development Halton, Volunteer Halton)
|Comments||We are a registered Not-For-Profit organization with a deep connection with the pioneering of city-wide recycling in Canada. Our original organization was Citizens' Committee for Pollution Control (CCPC): 1970-1983). Burlington then became the first city in Canada to have a municipal curbside, multimaterial recycling program! In 2012, a few of us began a new organization, using the CCPC story to inspire today's citizens to take action on their environmental concerns, in the current situation of climate change.|

|Duties||We need an occasional Driver, and we invite this individual to be a Member of our Development Committee, so that he or she will feel part of the organization, as a valued member of our group's decision- making process. This membership is an invitation, not a requirement. We hope to be able to cover fuel costs, but we need to be frank - we will not know till February whether the fuel costs can be covered. In the meantime, there will not be much call for a Driver. We are planning projects that will require quite a bit of getting around, so we hope that the arrangement can be paid for through a special fund-matching project with the City. There might rarely be a need to pick up an individual who lives in Hamilton, needing to get to the Burlington Public Library to make a presentation. |
The vehicle might need to carry event materials as well as people (e.g.)folded tables, refreshments, and other materials for a tree planting event.materials
|Benefits||You would have the satisfaction of enabling to get members to locations where projects will be carried out (e.g.) a rotating Seminar on the topic of Climate Change in all wards of the city, If you choose to be a Member, your driving would probably feel more meaningful as supporting projects that you would have knowledge of. But, no pressure!|
|Clients||Board members, presenters in the Seminar project, members who might need to get to meetings in hard-to-reach locations|
