Start2Finish, Running & Reading Club

The Start2Finish Running & Reading Club is a fun after-school program that encourages literacy, healthy active living, and play. The program runs from October to May one afternoon a week for two hours. Volunteers support students in various fitness and reading activities. As a result, students stay in school, build self-confidence and develop positive friendships with mentors and peers. With mentor Coaches, students discover the possibilities of a brighter future.

Information to highlight:

  • Children in the Running & Reading Club are 6 -13 years old; from grades 1-6
  • You do not have to be a runner to volunteer, there is something for everyone!

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Participating with children in fitness activities
  • Reading with children
  • Help to serve snack
  • Leading literacy activities
  • Some administration

  • Possess a valid Ontario Driver’s licence and a safe driving record. 
  • Has access to a safe and appropriate vehicle, which is adequately insured with a minimum of 1 million dollars of liability. 

  • Has the physical ability to carry meal bags. 

  • Pick up route list and meals from the office location (Georgetown or Acton). 

  • Using your own vehicle, deliver meals to each client on the route sheet. 

  • Uses sanitization practices such as recommended hand washing and food serving guidelines.  

  • On completion of meal delivery, returns list and meal bags to office. 

  • Reports any unusual client conditions and concerns to Coordinator. 

  • Maintains calmness in emergencies, with an ability to assist in a crisis. 

  • Participates in annual volunteer survey.  

  • Interact professionally in accordance with Links2Care Code of Conduct and Human Rights Act. 

  • Maintain complete confidentiality of client information in accordance with Links2Care confidentiality/privacy policy. 

  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Links2Care, Oakville, Care at Home for Seniors and Adults with Disabilities
Georgetown, Acton
  • Pick up groceries from grocery stores and complete the delivery from the list provided by the coordinator. 
  • Communicates with the coordinator about any substitutions that need to be made. 

  • Delivers the groceries to the client’s door. 

  • Maintains communication with the coordinator in the event of any schedule changes. 

  • Completes and submits a monthly volunteer time record. 

  • Maintains calmness in emergencies, with an ability to assist in a crisis. 

  • Be physically able to lift heavy items such as cases of water, bags of potatoes, and carry shopping bags. Physically able to stand and/or walk for one to two hours at a time.
  • Participates in annual volunteer survey.  

  • Interacts professionally in accordance with Links2Care Code of Conduct and Human Rights Act. 

  • Maintains complete confidentiality of client information in accordance with Links2Care confidentiality/privacy policy. 

  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment.

  • Performs other duties as assigned
