Volunteer drivers take children and on occasion parents, to various appointments; therapy sessions, family visits, counselling sessions, court dates, support groups, and other important meetings.  
 
Drivers are currently needed during day time hours. Some do a specific drive or two each week, others are called upon on a daily basis and yet others do once a month. We are always in need of reliable, readily available volunteer drivers.

By volunteering you may also be providing some much-needed support to a caregiver or family member simply by visiting one of our wonderful clients.

Once a month, rotating around the region, we host an evening where families have an opportunity to share in a meal together, meeting other families, sharing and learning from each other – a place and space for everyone to “be themselves”. 
Themes and activities change every month.

Be an active participant in all facets of the event from acquisition of silent auction items, procurement of sponsorship, ticket and table sales, coordination of print materials, and event day set up.  
Ideally, this person is a go-getter, good follow through, comfortable asking for sponsorship/money and can build a good rapport with sponsors. 
 
We are currently recruiting for committee members for our three signature events - Gala (November), Wheels - cycling fundraiser (June), Golf (July). Individuals can specify desired committee.

Volunteers will assist with special events that either raise awareness about Halton Women's Place in the community or assist by volunteering to plan or help at fundraisers such as Gala Dinner Auction, Golf Tournament, Hope in High Heels, or third party fundraising events such as car washes, BBQs, etc. 
 
Gala Committee members needed for monthly meetings September to March. Assist with sponsorship, ticket sales, and auction item solicitation.

Handlers and their canines make weekly visits to long term care facilities in Milton, Oakville & Halton Hills. There is a short training/evaluation process including a minimum of 10 visits. Canines must be at least 1 year old. Volunteer hours are flexible to your schedule. Handlers must be 18 or 16 and accompanied by an adult. Handlers must commit to 60 hours per year.

Halton Fresh Food Box
Driver picks up truck from rental agency and brings truck to packing site unless directed to another place to pick up supplies to bring to the packing site. 
• Delivery team oversees loading of boxes onto the truck. Work with lead shipper to ensure correct number of boxes are on truck.  
• Driver takes the lead to ensure the truck has a balanced load and that boxes of different sizes are easily accessible when reach drop sites. 
• Driver or Volunteer assistant reviews delivery order with box packing coordinator at the packing site before leaving on delivery. There may be minor changes each month to the delivery route.  
• Drive orders to drop-sites as required. Determine best route to meet schedule. 
Substantial lifting and walking is required. Boxes sometimes exceed 25 lbs.  
• When arrive at drop sites – Volunteer assistant and driver meet and greet volunteer drop site coordinator. Together using a dolly unload the boxes to the designated area. Driver and delivery assistant work together to offload as a team with shared work load. 
• The drivers and delivery personnel (two people on the truck at all times) are the community face of the program. Must be willing to be a good ambassadors for the non-profit program which is nearly 100% volunteer operated.

Provide an introduction for new Canadians about navigating various career fields and the workplace setting. Mentors work with internationally trained individuals to share their knowledge of the skills, educational requirements, work environments, and lifestyles that accompany all aspects of their career field.

There are two main volunteer options: 
1. To assist packing and delivering Fresh Food Boxes to residents of Halton region. Weighting and packing of fruits and vegetables into plastic boxes on the first Tuesday in Milton, second Tuesday in Oakville, third Tuesday in Burlington and the fourth Tuesday in Georgetown of every month 
 
2. Assisting with foodbox deliveries throughout Halton Region. Approximately 10 am to 2 or 3 pm depending on the location. This position involves loading, unloading and carrying of boxes which weigh up to 30 plus pounds.

People who love to fund raise in a variety of ways would be a real asset to our program. It can be as simple as approaching local sponsors for donations to organizing and hosting a fund raising event to writing grant proposals. Volunteers can self-select the type of fund raising they like to be involved with in conjunction with the Sustainability Committee. Time commitment: dependent on type of fundraising and each fundraisers’ availability.
