By sharing ideas, resources, successes and by working together on school and community eco-projects, we can have a greater impact with a louder voice. After all, it is OUR collective future. 

Join us monthly as we learn about eco-issues and campaigns, plan educational / empowering eco-action activities for the community, discuss the latest eco-news, and connect with like-minded people. Everyone within the age range is welcome! 

We offer a mix of in-person events as well as the opportunity to volunteer online through our Social Media Subcommittee. 

Outdoor events occur on different days of the week and could be anything from hikes, litter clean-ups, plantings, invasive plant removals, event greening, and opportunities to connect and care for nature. Watch our Instagram for updates or contact us to join our Youth Network mailing list.

Drop in online meetings are once a month throughout the winter months IDecember to March), usually on a Monday @ 4:30 pm. Message us on Instagram or send an email for the meeting link.

The Burlington Symphony Orchestra (BSO) Board of Directors is actively recruiting dynamic community members who are passionate about supporting the arts. Our team of dedicated volunteer Directors works together to support interesting, exciting orchestral and small ensemble performances that engage and inspire large and diverse audiences in the local area.

To complement the existing slate of Directors, the BSO is looking for individuals with experience in donor relations and fundraising. Previous governance experience is an asset.

The Board meets virtually on the third Wednesday of every month from 7-9 pm. Directors are encouraged to attend BSO concerts whenever possible.

Re-Imagine Ontario, Oakville, Community Support Services for Vulnerable Youth and Seniors

Summary of Position:

Re-Imagine Ontario is seeking Board Directors, with executive or professional experience in at least one of the following key areas:

  • Law
  • Fundraising and Programs Development,
  • Marketing & Public Relations
  • Human Resources
  • Finance

Candidates should have a strong sense of volunteerism, a strong network, and are passionately committed to contributing to community. You will have the important responsibility for the governance of Re-Imagine Ontario. Re-Imagine Ontario is committed to ensuring that our Board is reflective of the communities we serve, including diverse perspectives in our Board decisions. This is an unpaid volunteer role where quarterly board meetings are now being conducted remotely but should be able to attend in person if the need arises. Ideal candidates must be very responsive to emails and any ad hoc meetings that may be convened.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the organization’s leadership to develop the best strategy for the organization. This includes working with any outside consultants & experts, who may seek direct board participation in completing strategic projects.
  • Understand and demonstrate commitment to our vision, mission, and values.
  • Leverage knowledge, expertise, connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve our mission, vision, and goals.
  • Know and understand all programs/services being offered
  • Understand and monitor our financial affairs
  • Actively prepare for and participate at Board meetings quarterly
  • Make inquiries when clarification or more information is needed
  • Ensure our organization is complying with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Understand and maintain confidentiality
  • Avoid any conflicts of interest
  • Works with other Board members in achieving the objectives of the sub- committee to which you may be assigned.
  • Actively promote Re-Imagine Ontario and use Board members’ influence to positively contribute to advancing our reputation and brand.
  • Actively and constantly fundraising for the organization.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in a relevant field or equivalent certification and/or training/experience in any of the areas listed, or in governance, organizational development, or not-for-profit management.
  • Prior board experience a huge asset though not mandatory.
  • Minimum 5 years leadership experience working or volunteering in any of the following key areas: working with the elderly, youth (especially diverse populations), is an asset
  • Understanding of not-for-profit structure, policies, and governance an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work with, and message to, diverse audiences, including government and community organizations, people with lived experience and the general population is an asset.
  • Experience in collaborating, maintaining confidentiality, providing recommendations, influencing decisions, and looking at “the big picture” at the leadership level.
  • Ability to problem solve, plan, and manage change.
  • Experience in using Microsoft O365 is an asset.
  • Offers will be conditional upon the receipt of a clear vulnerable sector check (VSC) and the successful verification of your references.

If you enjoy speaking with the community, working outdoors, and helping out with a variety of tasks then this may be the perfect volunteer opportunity you’ve been looking for! 

We are looking for a small diverse team to accompany our team members providing information, resources and educational, hands-on activities at our Burlington Beach Eco Hub and other locations, primarily in late Spring, Summer, and early Fall.

This opportunity is suitable for adults of all ages, and for post-secondary and older high school students with communication skills, lots of energy, reliability, passion for the environment, responsibility and a willingness to learn. Formal related experience or education is not required.

If you are selected for this opportunity, we will ask you to commit to a schedule of weekday and/or weekend shifts for a two month period. Training will be provided.

Duties may include:

  • Set up and take down of outreach table/supplies and eco-activity materials

  • Being a friendly and helpful ambassador for BurlingtonGreen, providing awareness and eco-action information to members of the public

  • Leading and/or co-leading eco-actions with diverse community member of all ages

  • Referring questions to staff members or other volunteers as needed

  • Maintain confidentiality as needed

  • Other duties as needed
