Legislative Services, City of Burlington is responsible for:

  • assessment rolls and bylaws
  • maintaining corporate records
  • conducting municipal elections
  • providing commissioner of oath services
  • providing support for Council and Committees

Legislative Services is governed by provincial legislation (the Municipal Act, Municipal Elections Act and Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act)

Description (Service)

City Council conducts its business using the standing committee system

Committee and Council Services

  • provide information to citizens with respect to council and committee procedures, policies and decisions
  • prepare and distribute standing committee agendas and council information packages
  • prepare and give notice as required under the Planning Act and the Ontario Heritage Act
  • record and prepare minutes of standing committee and council meetings
  • receive applications for volunteer membership on local boards and committees and maintain records for the Committees
  • maintain and update property assessment records
  • manage and maintain City records including by-laws
  • respond to inquiries under Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
  • conduct municipal elections in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act
  • provide Commissioner of Oaths services for a fee

  • a document can be signed before a Commissioner of Oaths for a fee
  • available by appointment only
  • for more information see here
  • Note: signature by Commissioner of Oaths is different from having it notarized (to find a Notary Public see Yellow Pages under "Notaries Public")
