Marriage licence requirements:
- couples to be married must complete and sign a marriage licence application form
- application with the supporting documents listed below must be submitted in person by one of the applicants to the Clerks Department, Town of Oakville
- marriage licence will be issued on the same day provided all documentation is complete
- appointments are required
Identification:
- Two pieces required, no photocopies or expired identification:
- one piece must be photo identification such as passport or driver's licence
- other acceptable ID: original birth certificate, record of immigrant landing or Canadian citizenship card
- documents in another language must be supported by a certified translation
Canadian divorce:
- If previous marriage was dissolved or annulled within Canada the original or court certified copy of the Decree Absolute or Certificate of Divorce must be submitted
- certified copies may be obtained from the court which granted the divorce
- divorce judgment is not acceptable
- photocopies not acceptable and all documents will be returned
Foreign divorce:
- if either applicant was divorced outside of Canada, authorization from the Office of the Registrar General must be obtained before a marriage licence can be issued

Expiry date:
- a marriage licence is valid for use anywhere in Ontario for a period of 90 days from the date of issue
Interpreters:
- applicants must provide own interpreter (if English is not understood or spoken)
- interpreter must provide identification and cannot be a family member
Blood tests:
- blood tests or medical certificates are not required in Ontario
Residency:
- there are no residency or citizenship requirements
Marriage ceremony:
- Town of Oakville performs civil ceremonies
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) authorizes the Town of Oakville to provide local businesses with lottery and gaming licenses.
- the Town ensures all legal requirements, including terms and conditions to the licenses, are met by lottery licensees and any gaming supplies used by charities
- the Criminal Code of Canada defines what types of gaming activities are illegal in Canada, and the provinces are assigned responsibility to operate, license and regulate legal forms of gaming
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) also regulates the sale, service and consumption of alcohol.
- to obtain an application for the sale or service of alcohol, contact the AGCO or your local LCBO store
- as part of the completion of your application, you will be required to notify and/or obtain clearance from the Town of Oakville for a liquor sales licence, temporary liquor licence extension, and special occasion permit
- the appropriate notification is required at least 30 days prior to the event
