Description (Service) | Offers five community gardens locations * includes raised accessible plots for individuals with limited mobility * seven plots are dedicated to providing fresh food to local food bank programs run by volunteers of the Burlington Food Bank * each community garden has full sun, water supply, soil, compost, wood chips for pathways, a storage shed, some large tools, compost bins and a picnic table Community garden locations: * Amherst Park, 2030 Amherst Heights Crt (washrooms not available, street parking) * Central Park, 2299 New St (park washrooms available, on bus route, parking lot) * Francis Road Trail, near Marley Rd (washrooms not available, on street parking, on bus route) * Ireland Park, 2315 Headon Forest Dr (park washrooms available, on bus route, parking lot) * Maple Park, 750 Maple Ave (park washrooms available, on bus route, parking lot) Permit holders are expected to: * provide their own plants, seeds and garden supports/ornaments * follow all garden rules and help to maintain the common areas of the garden and keep water barrels full Volunteer opportunities to help grow food for food bank donation are available through the Burlington Food Bank at Maple Park and Central Park * interested people should contact the Burlington Food Bank directly to speak with their volunteer coordinators Donations Donations of tools in good condition, patio umbrellas with stands, vegetable seeds and seedlings are welcome * contact the Community Garden Coordinator Tours Free tours for horticulture groups or school field trips can be arranged for any location * contact the Community Garden Coordinator Consultation and Burlington Neighbourhood Community Matching Funding is available to residents and community groups wishing to organize to start up a community garden on private, commercial or institutional land (assuming a suitable site, City zoning by-laws allow for community gardens on all but contaminated unsafe industrial land) |

Application | Online plot lottery application form must be submitted between May 1 and November 30 for the following season * applicants may select which garden location and plot style they prefer * all applicants will be notified if they have been assigned a plot or not by early December Note: * only one plot may be assigned per household * plots are assigned by lottery for one year due to demand |
